SAN FRANCISCO, July 9, 2024 - Barg Coffin Lewis & Trapp, LLP is pleased to announce that Griffin Williams has joined the firm as an associate.

Mr. Williams is a graduate of the University of California, Berkeley, School of Law (Berkeley Law) where he was Senior Publishing Editor of the Ecology Law Quarterly. His honors during that time included earning a certificate of specialization in Energy & Clean Technology Law, the Prosser Prizes in Environmental Law & Policy and in Energy Project Development & Finance, and the Dean’s Fellowship. During his undergraduate studies, Mr. Williams was a Trustee Scholar (full-tuition merit scholarship) at the University of Southern California (USC) where he majored in History and Political Science and graduated magna cum laude. At USC, he was a member of Phi Beta Kappa and received the Discovery Scholar Prize and Banner Award (twice).

Prior to joining Barg Coffin, Mr. Williams gained experience in energy and environmental policy while interning with the offices of U.S. Senator Dianne Feinstein and U.S. Congresswoman Nanette Diaz Barragán. At Berkeley Law, he was a research assistant for Professors Dan Farber and Eric Biber, where he conducted research on local zoning ordinances and on federal appellate cases concerning the Endangered Species Act (ESA), National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), and environmental justice issues. He also served as a student clinician in Berkeley’s Environmental Law Clinic, providing legal advice concerning the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA). After earning his J.D., Mr. Williams clerked at Cottonwood Environmental Law Center in Bozeman, Montana, working on federal and state litigation concerning the Clean Water Act, NEPA, the Montana Environmental Policy Act (MEPA), and Montana voting rights.

Along with his distinguished educational background and work experience, Mr. Williams brings a desire to work with clients in tackling tough environmental issues. “Since joining our firm, Griffin has already proven himself to be an indispensable asset, providing incisive, detailed, and persuasive factual and legal analysis, and sophisticated advice for our key clients,” said Barg Coffin partner Dave Metres. “We look forward to Griffin’s bright future with our firm and continued development into an ace environmental lawyer.”
